The secret to applying self tanner is to first exfoliate skin in a lukewarm shower. Apply a light, non greasy moisturizer to your face and body, allowing several minutes for it to sink in. This gives you a clean, even area for application. Always use face tanners that are made specifically for the face. Formulations that are designed for the face usually won’t clog your pores or cause breakouts. 

For a longer lasting tan, always moisturize your skin after you’ve achieved your desired tan.  If your skin is extra dry or dehydrated, apply a rich moisturizer after your self- tan has soaked into your skin and the tanning process is complete. Avoid using self tanners before you work out. The excessive sweating will cause it to streak. Wait a few hours to make sure your skin is completely dry.

Many dark skinned women use sunless tanning products to give their skin a bronzy, coppery glow. A little added color helps to eliminate any sallow or ashy tones that occasionally appear in dark skin. For women with darker skin tones use dark and intense formulas for a darker tan, these products have the most active ingredients.
